To review, evaluate, supervise, and approve books that are printed, published, and distributed by UMSU, a body called the Publications Council operates under the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology. The council is the official authority for academic book publishing within Urmia University of Medical Sciences.

Director of Scientific Information and Academic Resources
Director of Research Affairs
Head of Journals and Books Group
Six selected faculty members from different schools of the university
Senior library officer responsible for books and publications
Eligibility Criteria
Commitment to ethical principles and to the values of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Appropriate academic rank with a record of authorship or article publication.
Minimum rank of Associate Professor; experienced Assistant Professors with strong research and authorship records may also be appointed.
Duties and Authorities of the Council
The duties and authorities of the Publications Council are as follows:
To review, evaluate, and approve the publication of books referred to the Publications Council for printing and publishing.
To examine the work in terms of content and confirm the type of work according to the definitions provided in Article One.
To appoint a referee for expert review of the aforementioned works.
To make the final decision regarding support for printing the work.
The Publications Council may suggest to researchers in clinical groups and groups lacking textbooks or with limited textbooks that they author a book (and, under specific circumstances when necessary, translate a book). This is so that qualified individuals in each group can collectively author a book.
