A brief history:

In 1915, the first Nursing Institute was established by a group of American missionaries in Urmia. Three years later, a group of students graduated from the Institute. During the First World War, the school moved to Tabriz. Later, in 1926, the Institute was reestablished in Urmia. In 1987, the Institute was renamed and restarted as the School of Nursing & Midwifery of Urmia University of Medical Sciences.

 Urmia Nursing and Midwifery School has been known as one of the most active nursing and midwifery colleges in the country. The outstanding resources of the school provide students with a unique opportunity to develop and grow in the nursing profession. Its graduates are working in high managerial, educational and therapeutic positions all over the country. Nursing and Midwifery Journal and establishment of the first patient safety research center has been one of the major honors of this school.
