Urmia Imam Khomeini University Hospital is an elected member of the reform plan of the economic management framework of the Health and Medical Education Ministry of the kidney transplant pole in the north of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was established in 1995 by the time president and was formally opened in 1996 with the purpose of providing health care services to proud people of the region and regard to population growth. It contained 298 beds, two general surgery wards and a polyclinic. During 1995 till 2012 medical wards, hospitalization, para clinic and equipment of the center were developed. So the center is currently active with 499 beds, with more than 24 specialized hospitalization wards, accident and emergency unit, operating rooms and para clinic units including: MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Laboratory, Dialysis, Radiology and etc. Also the center is currently active as a trustee board to the purpose of the Ministry of the Health and Medical Education and government policy. By the way it is the largest provider of education and medical research services at the provincial level. In addition as a specialist and trauma center it welcomes to patients from province and other neighbor countries. Also, in order to perform valuable manageable programs and improve the quality, the center offers clinical education and training to future and current physicians, nurses, and other health professionals. Urmia Imam Khomeini University Hospital, because of its high experienced specialists, is a source center for many complex treatments that require advanced technology and experience. So, modern technology and experienced health care physicians improve the quality and quantity of education, research and treatment which is the main aim of the center. By the way, the center has trained many assistants in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, anesthesia, neurosurgery, pathology and orthopedics; therefore, it is always open to all medical and paramedical trainees.
